A holiday meal is not complete without homemade gravy. Whether you’re making turkey or slow cooked pot roast, you need this simple sauce to complete the meal! The best gravies come from the cooking liquids, so don’t let them go to waste.
Making your own gravy can be very simple. I’ve stuck with this method forever because it always turns out well.
Start with basic beef broth or the reserved cooking liquid from a turkey or pot roast. If you are using cooking liquids, make sure to skim off the excess fat/oil before making the gravy. Heat it on the stove until it’s simmering.
Mix together cold water and corn starch. Add to pan and stir constantly. Bring to a simmer, cook and stir for about a minute, until sauce is thickened. Add some salt and/or pepper to your taste. Lower heat to keep sauce warm in the pan. See those little bits of meat and carrots in there? They add so much flavor and depth to the gravy. Serve with your favorite cut of roasted meat, or a mound of mashed potatoes!
